CPO mega tree plantation drive on June 5

Kohima, May 30 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) in collaboration with all its frontal bodies, Phek district administration and other government departments is organizing a mega tree plantation drive on World Environment Day (June 5) in commemoration  of 50th anniversary of the formation of Phek district.

The 50th anniversary of the formation of Phek district will be celebrated in the month of December 2023.

“This landmark event not only reminds us of the progress we have made but also serves as a reminder of our responsibility to safeguard the natural heritage that surrounds us,” CPO said in a press note.

The primary aim of the mega tree plantation drive is to plant a significant number of fruit trees along the highways within CPO's jurisdiction (Sedzii to Dziilhami, Sedzii to Pfutsero, Phek to Pfutsero via Sakraba, Pfutsero to Chizami).

In this regard, all the village councils along the highways have been asked to coordinate with CPO Monitoring Groups for the procurement of tree saplings from the distributing points, logistics and implementation, and post-event care.

Apart from the villages along the highways, all the villages under CPO should participate and contribute to the greening of the district by planting a minimum of 50 trees within the respective village jurisdiction with the slogan ‘Fifty Trees for Fifty Years,’ according to CPO.

The CPO requested the support and active participation of all the people of Phek district in making this CPO mega tree plantation drive a resounding success.

‘Together, let's make this 5th of June 2023 a memorable and transformative day for Phek district,’ CPO President Vezuhu Keyho and General Secretary Chepetso Koza appealed in a press note.
