The Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) has been giving its attention to the ongoing 2 lane road construction from Kohima-Jessami. Recently, a Joint Inspection was carried out, comprising of PMG members and CPO 2 lane Committee and Contractors in all the packages to expedite the ongoing construction as the progress has been very slow in some packages.

CPO President Vezühü Keyho said in his presidential address during 42nd general session of CPO at Chizami on January 24. The CPO has urged the contractors and NHIDCL to complete the construction within stipulated time. Keyho said that the CPO will be monitoring the same till completion.

Delimitation issue, census of Chakhesang people
On the Delimitation issue, he said that the North East States Delimitation Demand Committee has filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to initiate the delimitation in four states through ECI. In this regard, he said that the CPO has convened a joint meeting of Committees, Legislators and CPO office bearers and after thorough deliberation, it had decided to contest in the court.

As resolved by the Executive Council in the last General Session held on 10th January 2023 at Middle Khomi Village, to conduct a General Census of Chakhesang people, many villages have complied and already submitted their census. However, Keyho said that some villages are yet to do so.

In this, those villages which are yet to submit their census datas have been requested to do so at the earliest. Keyho informed that Chakhesang Attire Regulatory Board has been constituted to oversee and regulate all affairs relating to Chakhesang Cultural Attires, Ornaments and Designs, Motifs etc. so as to check cultural misappropriation and also protect our indigenous attires.

The Board shall submit its recommendation to the CPO for review and approval for implementation, he said.

Regarding Sumi-Chakhesang Brotherhood meet, he said that CPO will be hosting the meet in the early part of this year. In this regard, a constituted committee will be entrusted to chalk out the necessary arrangements, he said.

‘Unity is strength’
Touching on CPO 42nd general session theme ‘Unity is Strength,’ Keyho said, “If we don’t have unity and live in the legacy of our elders, the efforts and sacrifices made by them would all have been for nothing, and worse still, we as a people would have failed ourselves and the generations to come.”

Stating that our culture and temperament is one of the most liberal and independent amongst the many Naga tribes, he said “ However, unless we are able to discipline our emotions and at times irrational liberal attitude which tends to border on the extreme, it is going to be a challenging task to live in the legacy of our forerunners.

We must seriously consider that we are now living at the crossroads of many life changing issues which is very fragile. Unless we have strong unity among us, there is a danger that we will become fragmented, he said. “We should always remain united and never compromise our principles but stand by the legacy of our elders which is our heritage,” Keyho said.

Let us rededicate ourselves to our commitments, exercise patience and understanding, discipline our emotions and our biases, be accommodative and persevere in all our dealings among us and with our neighbors as there is solution for every problem, he said.
