DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): The Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) has sought clarification from the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on a number of issues related to the ongoing 4-lane project of NH 29 between Dimapur and Kohima.
In a representation addressed to the General Manager, NHIDCL, the CPO lamented that the road between Dimapur and Kohima has become ‘dirt off-road/riverbed like condition’ in many locations since the 4-lane project started.
While the road does not appear to be nearing completion in any part of the whole stretch of the highway, the CPO said the public has been suffering for the last three years ever since the projected started due to what it alleged as “negligence and lack of sense of responsibility for the public on the part of the authority concerned.”
The CPO therefore wanted to know who should be held responsible for the damage and maintenance of the existing road between Dimapur and Kohima, which is in hazardous condition; who should be made accountable, the NHIDCL or the contractor (s), for the accidents caused due to negligence in the maintenance of road.
It also questioned whether public safety is assured in the 4-lane project and what steps are being taken. It further wanted to know who should be responsible, whether NHIDCL or the contractor (s) for creating pollution and adverse travel conditions on the road which is causing untold miseries to both public and the commuters.
The CPO also queried on the scheduled time period for completion of the project and when it will see completion.
While urging the NHIDCL to take into serious consideration the issues raised and take appropriate action, the CPO cautioned that it would be compelled to demand for enquiry through appropriate agencies if their request for clarity on these issues is not clarified in public domain at the earliest.
