CPO urges NHIDCL and contractors to expedite Kohima-Jessami 2-lane project

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 18 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) and its Two-Lane Committee have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the slow progress and poor quality of the ongoing two-lane road project between Kohima and Jessami. In a press release issued on November 18, the CPO criticized the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the EPC contractors for failing to meet their commitments, despite repeated appeals, meetings, and assurances.

The organization highlighted the critical role of the road in ensuring socio-economic development and livelihood for the region, emphasizing its significance as a lifeline for the public. The CPO stated that, despite their full cooperation with NHIDCL and contractors to facilitate timely completion, the project has been marred by delays, poor workmanship, and negligence.

Particularly concerning are the deteriorated conditions along the Chakhabama stretch of the road, which have reportedly been abandoned for years, causing severe inconvenience to the public. The CPO noted that several accidents, loss of lives, and damage to public resources have occurred due to negligence in road maintenance, terming it a "fit case to sue against the erring parties."

In its appeal, the CPO urged NHIDCL to ensure advance payments to contractors to accelerate progress and improve the quality of work. It also called for the immediate clearing of landslide debris and blocked drains, which have remained neglected for an extended period. Additionally, the organization asked local village councils to address unregulated mining activities along the road that are causing further damage and safety risks.
