Kiphire, February 18 (MExN): Traditional crafts and weaving were the focus of a one-day workshop held under the Living Morung Project at Kiphire village on February 17.
Village Council Chairman of Kiphire Village, Tsidongchem, attended the workshop as the special guest. The programme was organised by the Office of the District Cultural Officer, Kiphire, under the Department of Art & Culture. Villagers from Langkok and Longthonger also attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, District Cultural Officer, Kiphire, Moses Newmai stressed the importance of embracing one’s culture and identity irrespective of age, social status, divisions, or the influence of western culture.
Head GB of Kiphire village, Tsalimong, narrated the history of the village’s migration and highlighted the significance of the Morung, as well as the importance of handicrafts and weaving for the present generation.
Thsaopi Sangtam (crafts) and Zuzila Sangtam (weaving) served as the resource persons for the workshop, according to a State DIPR report.
