Creating buzz for conservation: 1st Nagaland Honey Bee Day on December 5

Painting competition on ‘Save the Honey Bees’ conducted to sensitize the young minds on the importance of saving  honey bees

Dimapur, November 16 (MExN): Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) organised a painting competition with the theme ‘Save the Honey Bees’ on November 16 at Multi Utility Centre, 6th Mile Dimapur in commemoration of the 1st Nagaland Honey Bee Day to be held on December 5.  

The event is being held as a prelude to the honey bee day celebrations with the objective to sensitize the young minds on the importance of saving the honey bees for the betterment of our future and to encourage to the student community to be the future custodians of the honeybees,” stated a press release issued by Chubanungla Shilu, Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM).  

A total of 30 participants of Class 8 to 10, from 10 schools of Dimapur participated in the contest. Participating schools were: Maple Tree, Delhi Public School, Government Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Vision Home Higher Secondary School, St John Higher Secondary School, Christian Higher Secondary School, SD Jain Higher Secondary School and Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School.  

Judges for the Contest were Wapang Ozukum, Award winning painter, Sculptor, Monument Designer and specialist in life sketching and Merimvu Doulo, Award winning Painter, Photographer, Logo & Landscape & Graphics Designer.  

The winners of the competition were as follows: First Prize- Apelo Kappo class 10 of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, won an amount of Rs 10,000/- along with a citation; Second prize- Jason Longshibemo Murry class 10 of Maple Tree School, won an amount of Rs 7,000/- along with a citation; and Third Prize- D Avi Swu class 10 of Vision Home Higher Secondary School, won an amount of Rs 5000/- along with a citation   In the brief inaugural programme, Chairman of NBHM Ntsemo Ngullie stated that saving the honeybees is the need of the hour and urged the participants to spread the message.  

Team Leader NBHM, T Imtiwapang Aier in his speech during the prize declaration session commented that this event is a prelude to the 1st Nagaland Honey Bee Day to be observed on December 5.  

Further he remarked that Nagaland was creating history by declaring a day solely dedicated to the honey bees as nowhere in the country such a day is being observed.  

Mention may be made that the winners would be felicitated with their prize money and citations on December 5 by the chief guest of the event and their paintings would be exhibited at the exhibition stall on the Nagaland Honey Bee Day. All participants were awarded with participation certificates by NBHM.
