Forms of domestic violence like abuse, rape and molestation etc are on the rise in Nagaland state, according to the Gender Statistics Nagaland 2016, which was released by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland.
In 2015, 92 cases of crimes against women were registered in Nagaland. Dimapur district has the highest numbers of crimes followed by Kohima, according to the report.
35 cases of rape were recorded, which was the highest followed by kidnapping & abduction registering 30 cases. The year wise numbers of victims of rape in Nagaland from 2006-2015 are as follows; 2006- 23; 2007- 13; 2008- 19; 2009- 22; 2010- 16; 2011- 23; 2012- 21; 2013- 31; 2014- 30 and 2015- 35.
The report also broke up the district wise total crimes against women registered as—Mon - 5, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Peren with 1 each, Wokha, Phek and Tuensang with 2 each, Dimapur-59 and Kohima-19. Reports from Longleng and Kiphire districts were indicated as not available.
