DIMAPUR, DEC 14 (MExN): The next round of talks regarding the contentious Tobu issue will be held early next year at Tobu. Disclosing this, General Secretary of the Tuensang Mon People’s Organization W Lemba Chang said winter is when communal tension usually arises owing to the drying up of the Deithong Nalla which allows easy accessibility. He however expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved soon.
Both the Konyaks and the Changs are at loggerheads over ownership of the disputed Tobu area which lies sandwiched between the Deithong and Kaimang nallas. The region east of the Kaimang nalla is an ancestral Konyak homeland while the area west of the Deithong nalla belongs to the Changs. (See graphic)

It is also to be clarified that the line, “Deithong Nalla, a strategically demarcated line with Upper Konyak villages of Mon District and Chang villages of Tuensang District located on either side along this point,” as carried in an earlier report is erroneous and should not be read as it is.
