CS reviews execution of GST

As of December 17, the migrated tax payers and new registration under Goods & Services Tax (GST) in Nagaland were 2992 and 3379 respectively, a State Tax official informed today.  

According to a DIPR report, the figures were given during a review meeting of the State Level Monitoring Cell for implementation of GST and Project Management Information System (PMIS) organised by the Chief Secretary of Nagaland & Chairman of GST, Pankaj Kumar (IAS) in Kohima on December 19.  

Presenting the migration status of GST, the Nagaland Additional Commissioner of Taxes Mhathung Murry further informed the meeting that the total Provisional Identity for Registrations (PIDs) issued and activated till date were 5605 and 3940 respectively, whereas the total PID migration was 3042, the report said.  

As per the status report, Nagaland had 31 entities paying Central Excise (CE) and Sales/Service Tax (ST) above Rs. 1.5 crores while those below Rs. 1.5 crores were 350. The total number of tax payers under Value Added Tax (VAT) above Rs. 1.5 crores was 188 and below Rs. 1.5 crores was 2662 respectively.  

The division of tax payers between the Centre and State above Rs. 1.5 crores was 110 and 109 and below Rs. 1.5 crores was 302 and 2710 respectively.  

The Additional Commissioner of Taxes also informed the meeting that Nagaland was one among the first five states to pilot the implementation of ‘E-waybill.’  

The department is all set and ready to join the all-India roll out of the E-waybill from February 1, 2018, he said, adding it will not be possible unless all the stakeholders participate with a concerted effort.  

Emphasizing on the importance of awareness, he said the role of IPR & AIR are crucial to disseminate the scope and advantages of GST in the state.  

It was also informed that refresher course on GST was held on December 18 and 19 and there are future plans to augment revenue by way of educating all the stakeholders about the benefits of timely GST compliance besides intensified TDS registration drive.  

Stating that only 23 departments have registered with GST so far, Murry also urged all the remaining departments to get registered at the earliest.
