DIMAPUR, JUNE 12 (MExN): The Chang Students’ Conference (CSC) has reiterated its demand that the work order for major repairing of 8 class rooms at GHSS Thangjam be cancelled immediately and diverted for construction of new building instead.

The CSC said this in a rejoinder to a clarification issued by Directorate of School Education recently. The CSC said that the current school infrastructure has been temporary renovated under the initiative of the 1st phase NECTAR programme 2022.

It noted that the present GHSS Thangjam school building was built by the District Administration as DC-garage and then, after the establishment of Sao Chang College, the building was temporarily allotted to the college for few years. In 1996 GHS Thangjam was relocated to the present building which continues till date.

With time, the requirement of more secondary level schools in Tuensang arose, the CSC said. As such, the department upgraded the GHS Thangjam to GHSS in 2014, with the initiative of few likeminded administrative officers of Tuensang and with support from the RD Department, three temporary class rooms were constructed in that year and one additional classroom was constructed by the CWS in 2022.

The department in 2015 assured for a new infrastructural development. Nevertheless, there has been nil infrastructural development till date, the CSC said. Since inception, only 5 class rooms of (20/15ft.) from RMSA was constructed in school during the year 2016-2017, it informed. Therefore, the conference said that the point of major repairing of the building which is more than 50 years old is just wastage of public resources.

The CSC said it is not satisfied with the response of the department that, “If the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) approves, the Department then needs to get clearance/approval/concurrence of the P & AR and Finance Department for the post creation/conversion and finally the cabinet approval”.

It demanded a written assurance for the up-gradation of Hakushang GHS to GHSS by the concerned authority. It further demanded that the PGT(s) currently transferred report at their respective place of posting immediately.

The CSC informed that so far, none of the PGT(s) have joined/reported at their respective place of posting till date. It also asked the Department of School Education to post the requisite PGT(s) to the two GHSS at Tuensang after the ongoing recruitment process is completed.

The CSC also sought clarification from the department on the media report that the state has 17:1 ratio in the Secondary Level (class 11-12); whereas, the Higher Secondary Schools in Tuensang are facing acute shortage of teachers and classrooms to accommodate students.

It appealed to the department to fulfill its demand on or before June 13, adding that failure to do so would compel the conference to initiate its second phase agitation from June 14.
