CSU begins agitation over Kohima-Jessami road conditions

Pfutsero, October 21 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) has launched the first phase of agitation, sealing the Project Management Unit (PMU) office of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Pfutsero.

The move comes after the CSU's ultimatum regarding the poor condition of the Kohima-Jessami road, particularly the Chakhabama-Kikruma stretch under Package-II, went unmet.

In a letter addressed to the General Manager of NHIDCL’s Pfutsero PMU, the CSU expressed dissatisfaction with the repair and maintenance work conducted on the road. The union had visited the site on October 19 and found the efforts to be substandard.

The union's key demands include the immediate clearance of landslides and other obstacles affecting vehicular movement, repairs to potholes along the stretch, and the installation of a proper drainage system. Additionally, the CSU is calling for the termination of the contract with Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., citing a recommendation from the Phek district PMU dated June 13, 2024.

The CSU warned that if these issues are not resolved, they will escalate their actions against both the implementing agency and the contractor.

The first phase of agitation will remain in place until these demands are met.
