
DIMAPUR, MARCH 2 (MExN): The Chang Students' Union, Tuensang Town (CSUTT) organised an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Women in Science’ at Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen (CBLT) Conference Hall, Tuensang on February 28.
It marked the celebration of National Science Day in collaboration with District Education Office, Tuensang, sponsored by Government of Nagaland Directorate of Science and Technology.
The program was chaired by Asang, women co-ordinator, CSUTT. Highlighting the importance of National Science Day programme, Thungti, president, CSUTT stated that it was to foster the spirit of advancement, and the students should come up with innovative ideas to drive society forward.
Resource Person, Dr Pritpal Kaur, SDPO Tuensang CBC stated: “Science is one of the most important subjects, a student can learn because of its relevance to our lives and its capacity to apply these vital life - skills to everyday activities.”
Sometnaro, headmistress, Trinity Academy, Tuensang, also addressed and shared her findings and disseminated more knowledge on the given topic ‘women in science.’
Altogether 47 students participated in the essay writing competition from different schools (both private & government schools).
Honglenchila Y of St John's Higher Secondary School, Tuensang got the first prize, Haanglenkhum of St John's Higher Secondary School, Tuensang got the second prize and the third prize was won by Siponglemla of Wela Foundation School, Tuensang.
Rupali Purkaystha, principal, Loyem Memorial College, Tuensang, Tapu Ranjan Paul, assistant professor, Loyem Memorial College, Tuensang and O Kaimang Chang graduate teacher, Science were the judges of the event.
Meanwhile, the student union acknowledged the District Education Office (DEO), Tuensang and also the respective principals and teachers from various schools for extending their contributions and for actively participating in the event.
