The Chang Students’ Union Tuensang Town (CSUTT) shut down the offices of telecom company Reliance Jio and all its related activities for poor network on September 4 in Tuensang town.
In a statement to the Jio Centre Manager, Kohima, Thungtikhumba S Chang, President and Takum Chang, General Secretary of the CSUTT stated that the shutdown was enforced due to the service provider’s failure to comply with demands for restoring and improving the network services in Tuensang.
The CSUTT said that the Jio centre in Kohima had on July 10 in reference to the ultimatum served by the former given an “assurance” for improvement of network services on July 10. The CSUTT informed that the JIO centre manager, Kohima had stated that, “we will ensure that Tuensang being among the biggest towns in Nagaland, is well connected and network is stabilised.”
“Mon-Tuensang fiber route is also under construction and on completion of these routes, Tuensang will experience a 10x network and digital experience and become the most stable network,” the CSUTT reported the company as stating.
It was also mentioned that the “fiber ring connectivity from Phek-Kiphire-Tuensang fiber route will be completed by August 31, 2020.”
However, after the given time period, the network went completely off from August 31 till September 3 and internet speed has dropped down. There have been instances where Jio internet was not available for 5 days and has experienced staggered network fluctuations, the CSUTT said.
The union said that the offices will remain shut till ‘10X’ network speed is provided in Tuensang.
