CTAN and NNQF to resume agitation from April 24

KOHIMA, APRIL 22 (MExN): The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) have announced the continuation of their agitation against the absorption of 147 Assistant Professors and Librarians in government colleges under the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland.

Despite a prior three-day peaceful protest, the organisations stated that their demands have not been addressed. Instead, they expressed discontent over the Cabinet’s decision on April 21 to constitute a committee to examine the matter. In a joint press statement, CTAN and NNQF rejected the move, terming it “insensitive.”

In response, the organisations have called for another public protest on April 24, beginning at 9 AM in front of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. The gathering will then proceed towards the Directorate of Higher Education, where the peaceful demonstration is scheduled to continue. Towards this, all concerned organisations and citizens have been urged to extend solidarity, with a request to send representatives for brief solidarity speeches.

The core demands of CTAN and NNQF include- Immediate revocation of Order No. HTE/HE/13-3/2020 (Pt-1) 104 dated December 17, 2024, which facilitated the absorption of 147 contractual appointees into regular posts.

Requisition of all Assistant Professor and Librarian posts filled on a contractual basis after June 6, 2016, to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) for recruitment through the Common Educational Services Examination.

Dissolution of the committee constituted by the Cabinet on April 21, 2025 to review the matter.

The CTAN and NNQF also submitted a fresh representation to the Chief Secretary, reiterating their appeal for the revocation of the December 17 order. “We, the aggrieved parties, are not satisfied with the Cabinet decision dated April 21 to set up a committee with a two-month timeframe,” the statement read. It affirmed their decision to continue the peaceful agitation from April 24 until their demands are met.
