CTAN puts govt on notice

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) on Tuesday issued an ultimatum to the state government seeking immediate implementation of scale pay for teachers under RMSA-2016, as directed by the Gauhati High Court and upheld by the Supreme Court.

In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Secretary, CTAN Convenor Er Meshenlo Kath and Co-Convenor Er Kaqheto said that the issue has affected 133 schools across Nagaland, with aggrieved teachers launching a pen-down strike from August 26, 2025, followed by a peaceful sit-in protest from September 8, 2025, which continues till date.

The Association said that despite clear rulings from both the Gauhati High Court and the Supreme Court that RMSA-2016 teachers are entitled to scale pay, the Department’s inaction has compelled teachers to resort to agitation.

CTAN alleged that the negligence of the state government has placed the academic careers of students at risk. “The root cause of the affected students’ academic career lies with the government’s negligence,” it said.

The Association demanded immediate implementation of the court’s order, warning that failure to comply with the “genuine demands” would invite “necessary democratic actions.”
