Mokokchung, July 28 (MExN): In commemoration of the day on which the fire of Protestantism was lit, Clark Theological College (CTC) inaugurated the 500th anniversary celebration on July 28 with prayer.
The celebration will be marked by 95 days of remembering Martin Luther’s 95 theses by way of putting up one thesis everyday, beginning today, on the wall of the College’s main building till all 95 theses are put up, informed a press release from the college.
This will culminate on October 31 with a daylong grand program comprising of a Thanksgiving Service, academic symposium around Luther’s life and theology and its relevance today, and finally a musical night as a tribute to Luther – the musician and hymn writer. The event revolves around Luther’s most foundational theology: “Saved by Grace”.
According to the release, the purpose for commemorating the “dynamic historical episode” is, among many, to remind the CTC Community in particular and Christians in general, of “the importance of Luther’s theological arguments in strengthening our Christian faith and deepening our spiritual search at this time and age.”
The release maintained that the year 2017 is a significant year for Christianity in general and protestant churches in particular. “On October 31, 1517, a German monk, philosopher, law expert and theologian by the name Martin Luther did something normal for that time but ended up with an unprecedented consequence. He nailed his 95 theses or arguments against the Church’s structure, practice and theology on the castle Church door at the University of Wittenberg, Germany. This gesture changed the face and direction of global Christianity and contributed to the birth and growth of the Christian Protestant tradition,” it added.
