Warns against rising crime, illegal tax demands and artificial price hike
CHÜMOUKEDIMA, DECEMBER 3 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) and Chümoukedima Chamber Of Commerce & Trade Association (CCC&TA) has strongly condemned the rise in anti-social activities that threaten the peace and harmony of Chümoukedima town.
In a press statement, the CTYO said it has been actively tackling issues such as thievery, drug abuse and peddling and public consumption of alcohol, which disrupt daily life and jeopardize public safety. The organization warned that any individual caught indulging in such unlawful activities will face severe action.
The CTYO also raised concern over the increasing nuisance caused by vehicles, particularly bikes retrofitted with loud exhaust systems. Stating that the excessive noise generated by these vehicles is a significant source of noise pollution, disturbing public peace and adversely affecting students who are preparing for their examinations, the CTYO urged the authorities to conduct thorough checks on such vehicles and take strict measures to address this issue promptly.
Furthermore, CTYO reiterated its call to all underground groups and elements to immediately stop the collection of illegal taxes within Chümoukedima Town. This aligns with the February 13 2024, Chümoukedima Public Resolution of “One Government One Tax,” which clearly states that no underground faction should impose taxes until they unite under a single entity. The continued imposition of illegal taxes places undue financial strain on citizens and businesses, hindering the town's progress, it stated.
While reaffirming that it stands firm in its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the well-being of its resident, the CTYO appealed the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or disruptive activities to the relevant authorities. Co-operation between law enforcement, community leaders and residents is essential to create a safe and harmonious environment, it also added.
Simultaneously, the CCC& TA raised concern once again regarding illegal taxation, forced collection, intimation and threat against the business fraternity in Chümoukedima town. With the onset of festive season, the business fraternity has become susceptible to increase illegal activities in the town, it pointed out.
In this connection, the CCC & TA warned individual /groups to refrain themselves from such activities, so that a peaceful and congenial atmosphere can be brought. It also warned the business establishment to refrain themselves from paying any form of taxation to any individual or underground groups.
In addition, the CCC & TA also warned against any artificial price rise, taking advantage of festive season. Any sort of discrepancies, misunderstanding arises; it should be reported to the competent authority immediately. All the business establishments are also directed to clean their shops and surroundings throughout the season, it stated.
