CTYO urges candidates and citizens to uphold integrity of democratic process

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, JUNE 22 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Town Youth Organization (CTYO) on Saturday said it was committed to ensuring a fair, peaceful, and democratic Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election. With Election Day approaching, the CTYO has urged all candidates, supporters, and citizens to uphold the integrity of our democratic process and discouraged any form of tribalism aimed at gaining votes.

“We strongly discourage any form of tribalism aimed at gaining votes. Our community is diverse and unified, and our electoral choices should reflect our commitment to collective progress rather than division,” the CTYO said in a press release.

It also condemned the practice of offering money or other incentives to buy votes. Such actions undermine the principles of democracy and disrespect the rights of our citizens to make free and informed choices, it said.

While stating that campaigns should be conducted with the utmost respect and responsibility, the CTYO has urged all candidates and their supporters to refrain from using intoxicating substances during campaign activities. Intoxicated campaigning not only tarnishes the image of our electoral process but also poses a risk to public safety, it added.

On the instances where individuals and groups have been threatened to vote for certain candidates, the CTYO said it stood firm against any form of intimidation or coercion while emphasizing that every citizen has the right to vote according to their own conscience, free from fear or pressure.

Furthermore, the CTYO said it will not tolerate any acts of violence or disruption in the Chümoukedima Town area and has called upon all citizens to report any such incidents immediately to CTYO or the appropriate authorities. Your vigilance and cooperation are essential in maintaining peace and order during this election period, it stated.

Dedicating to promoting a transparent, respectful, and peaceful election, the CTYO has called all concerned to work together to ensure that the town's electoral process is a true reflection of our shared values and aspirations. For further information or to report any incidents, the CTYO has shared their contacts: 7005940906/7085981118.
