CTYO wins Chetheba Open volleyball tournament

Kohima, October 17 (MExN): Hosts Chetheba Town Youth Organization (CTYO) emerged as the champions of the first open volleyball tournament for Phek district held at Chetheba Town local ground on Thrusday evening.  

They defeated Runguzu Nasa Village 25-14, 25-23 in the final match to take the title.  

Earlier CTYO team beat Mavericks Star Club Chozuba in the semi finals, while Runguzu Nasa Village defeated Khasuho team Thenyizu in the first semi-final.  

The champions i.e. CTYO received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 sponsored by Sekho Thisa, while the runner-up Runguzu Nasa Village received Rs 10,000 sponsored by Theyeswuyi DSP 5th NAP Chetheba.  

Thejongoi Phesao from Runguzu Nasa Village was adjudged as the best setter, while Thejota Nakhro from CTYO bagged the best spiker award.  

Vetazo Tetseo, president Chokri Area Youth Sports Association (CAYSA) who earlier graced the occasion as the special guest appreciated the effort of the CTYO for organising such a tournament and further emphasised on the participants to take up sports as a profession depending on their interest. He also reminded that the players should have a target and work hard to reach that target if they are to succeed in their lives.  

He also suggested that education and sports should go hand in hand and shouldn’t hinder the sporting activities or academic carrier to excel in their career.  

Vesuta Medeo, CTYO president in his welcome address said the tournament was organised to make the players physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming area sports meet and Phek District Sports Association meet. Medeo hoped that the tournament will also bring more unity in Phek district.  

Altogether 15 teams under Phek district participated in the championship.
