Shamator, June 8 (MExN): In a collective effort to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas, the Shamator-based civil society organizations—Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF), Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako Shamator Area (YLASA), and Shamator Town Students’ Union (STSU)—launched a cultural observance programme on June 6 at the Cultural Hall, Shamator. The event marked the beginning of a new cultural initiative under Shamator Headquarters, where traditional Naga attire will be worn on the first Friday of every month.
The programme was chaired by Tsukhumla, Secretary of YLASA, and began with an invocation by Rev. R. Thsankiu, Pastor of Shamator Town Baptist Church. Kiumehean, President of STPF, delivered the welcome and keynote address. A cultural highlight of the programme was the folk song Zip Khün performed by the Mongtsüwung Cultural Troupe, setting a fitting tone for the celebration of indigenous identity.
Guests including the Deputy Commissioner of Shamator, Head GB of Shamator, and representatives from the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), Yimkhiung Women Organization (YWO), Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), and Yimkhiung Youth Organization (YYO), along with the Advisor to STPF, delivered brief speeches encouraging youth to take pride in their roots and uphold traditional practices.
