‘Customary laws will continue to play an important role’

Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Deputy Speaker Er. Levi Rengma today asserted that it is an established fact that customary laws shall continue and shall have to continue to play a very important role in the administration of civil and criminal justice in Naga society.

He stated that GBs as grass root level leaders have an important role to play for the welfare and good of the society.
“I would like to remind you that to deliver justice and good administration you have to be kept in mind and always remember that if you want people to respect your decisions, you must be selfless and sacrifice for the sake of justice,” he said, while addressing the general meeting of the Rengma GBs’ Association here this morning.
He said that to do that they must be honest, sincere and that integrity should be their foremost daily guideline.

He also informed that GBs must know the customary laws and practices of our forefather and apply those customary practices in “our present day to day life along with present form of civil and criminal justice, as per the law of the land to deliver justice to the people.”

Earlier, Er. Levi released a book on “Rengma Customary Law and Practices” published by Rengma GBs Association.
Also speaking on the occasion, Tseminyu ADC Vikhweno was appreciative of the publication of the book  and expressed confidence that it would guide the future generation.
She also urged upon the GBs to know their duty and responsibility and at the same time to propagate their cultures and traditions to the younger generation.

GB Khillo Apon also spoke on the occasion. RGBA ex- president Kegwanye Kent delivered the welcome address. The function was chaired by RGBA president Gwachung Chung while vote of thanks was proposed by Nyenlo Khing.
