Dimapur, March 2 (MExN): Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) has in a press release stated that it had “resorted to protest and walk out” during the meeting of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) held on March 1 at Hotel Japfu Kohima “due to our differences with the President and some officials of the NWA, for prolonging the Naga Wrestling Style to that of two days.”
The press statement appended by CWA president Thepusayi Nienu and finance secretary Raruveyi Swuro asserted that “our” wrestling is always a one day packed event from the lowest level to that of the highest, adding “any deviation from the practice witnessed earlier has met unfavourable criticism and would not be taken kindly by our people irrespective of the justification offered.”
Naga Wrestling attracts crowd from “our” communities like no other event as young and old alike are passionate about wrestling, CWA added. “Right from the village level to that of the area and to that of the tribe and subsequently to the Naga Wrestling Meet…our people are involved and the interest of our people along with that of the wrestlers remains paramount interest to our Association.”
CWA further said that despite narrating its views upfront in the meeting that the Naga Wrestling Meet should be a one day event, the president of NWA with exception of some colleagues had insisted that the Naga Wrestling style should be spread over two days, for which it resisted and walked out of the meeting.
“In view of the changed scenario without taking the assent of our people,” the Chakhesang Wrestling Association has called an emergency meeting on March 3, 12:00 noon at Hotel Japfu Kohima. Therefore, all the five Area Associations’ presidents and general secretaries affiliated with CWA have been requested to attend the meeting without fail.
