Cyclist on mission to raise cancer awareness reaches Nagaland

Kohima, March 21 (DIPR): A young cyclist from Kolkata who has embarked on a multi-nation cycle journey with a mission to raise awareness on cancer reached Kohima on March 20. Anirban Acharya, who wanted to do something challenging since his schools days, has undertaken a pledge to create cancer awareness on bicycle and plans to cover more than 100 countries by 2020.

Talking to an IPR official, Anirban said that his mission is to spread the message that “cancer is preventable and curable but it needs awareness” as the primary goal of such awareness is to significantly reduce the illness and death caused due to the dreadful disease.  

Starting his journey from New Delhi on June 6, 2015 with a motto ‘Around the world on bicycle for a cause of cancer awareness’, Anirban has covered a distance of 1,40,000 kilometres till date covering Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Chennai, Kerala, Kanyakumari, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam before reaching Nagaland on March 19, 2016. After covering the seven North Eastern states, he will set out for South East Asian countries and Europe.  

Before embarking on this mission, Anirban was working as a Marketing Executive in an MNC in Kolkata and also undertook training at the Indian Cancer Society, New Delhi.
