Kohima, June 11 (MExN): Responding to the directive of the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), the federating units have successfully carried out tree plantation drive in their respective areas in commemoration of the World Environment Day.
Acknowledging the active participation of the federating units towards biodiversity conservation within Chakhesang inhabited areas of Phek district, enforced by CYF under the aegis of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO), the CYF stated such effort will go a long way in conserving environment and making the planet earth a better place to live in.
It may be recalled that CYF had earlier directed every youth in their respective areas to plant a tree each in commemoration of World Environment Day.
The CYF further lauded Phek Deputy Commission, Murohu Chotso for reiterating the ban on hunting in Phek district. The DC had informed that “unscrupulous” citizens in some villages under Phek district have been continuously indulging in hunting till today despite the standing ban order. He stressed that killings of wild animals and birds in violation of the standing ban order as well as environmental laws is a very serious offence.
The DC has strictly restrained the people of Phek district from holding all kinds of fire arms and air gun of non-fire arms by any person or group of persons for the purpose of hunting in the district. He warned that if anybody or group of persons is found violating the order, they shall be liable to be punished under the environmental laws and wildlife protection laws.
Further, CYF extended fullest support to Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) for declaring Phek as plastic free, smoking free & eco-friendly town under “Clean Green Operation” initiative.
