CYF opposes bail, demands maximum sentence in Kizari case

Kohima, October 21 (MExN): The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) extended its appreciation to the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, for apprehending the prime suspect in what it termed as the “Kizari rape and murder attempt case.” The suspect had reportedly been absconding since an FIR was filed on September 25.

In a press release, the CYF urged the investigating officers to ensure that “no stone is left unturned in preparing the chargesheet, in order to make sure that the accused is punished under the highest possible sentence allowed under law.”

Highlighting the severity of the crime, the CYF stated that the victim remains under protection due to the nature of the sexual assault and alleged death threats she received.

The front strongly opposed any bail plea on behalf of the accused, stating that such a move would pose further risk to the traumatised survivor.

The CYF further cautioned individuals or groups against facilitating bail for the accused while the investigation is ongoing.

“The CYF would initiate its own course of action if anything happens to the victim as a result of the bail and would not be held responsible for anything that may happen to the accused while on bail,” it conveyed.

The judiciary was also appealed to not grant bail to the accused until a “swift and proper trial, and the sentence is delivered.”

Expressing trust in the legal system, the CYF urged the judiciary to ensure fair justice, which it said is essential for the rehabilitation and safety of the survivor.
