Kohima, May 27 (MExN): The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) in collaboration with Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO will be observing World Environment Day on June 5 under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
With this, the CYF requested all the affiliated units to actively participate by coordinating with their respective members and village councils.
The focus shall be creating awareness, cleaning surroundings and water sources, while planting trees.
The CYF units have been requested to prepare their own saplings/tree branches by choosing the trees that can grow on local environmental conditions, to ensure that the planted trees can thrive.
The CYF suggested the plantation of trees like Cherry, Alder, and Wild Apple etc. in any location chosen by the respective units. The CYF also encouraged the units to check and prune the tree plantations from previous years, to make sure that the sweat of the past efforts does not go to waste.
The CYF also requested villages which experienced accidental jungle burning in their jurisdiction to focus the day on planting tree saplings in the affected areas, and regrow the forest.
There shall be an award for the Best Performing Village.
The units shall be screened based on the most motivated and most creative unit in Waste Management initiatives, and the unit that shows the highest promise and concern for our rich Biodiversity.
On the plantation day, the CYF encouraged the participants to bring their own water bottles and avoid the use of disposable plastic bottles and other single use plastics.
The Units have also been requested to share 3-4 good resolution photographs of either group photos of the participants, or participants in action or both with proper caption such as Unit Name and Activity, to the CYF Coordination group on WhatsApp or CYF Media Team.
