CYMA adamant on its stand on Bru repatriation

Aizawl, June 9 (NNN): Making its standpoint firm, Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) president Lalbiakzuala said the organisation is in favour of using 1995 electoral roll as base year for verification of Bru families to be repatriated likely in November.

This came against the government’s official statement which allows using of 2014 electoral roll as the base year for repatriation of displaced Bru families. The government in its official statement on June 6 said the repatriation is planned based on 2014 electoral roll, while for those not included in 2014 electoral roll but claiming to be genuine residents of Mizoram, verification would be done through their forefathers or from the people of their villages where they had been living. Verification will first be done in the camps, the statement added.   He said that the CYMA standpoint was to repatriate Bru resident and their descendants based on the 1995 electoral roll and this too was the standpoint of all political parties and NGOs. “We have been looking closely to the plan made by government for Bru repatriation and if the refugees are taken back based on electoral roll other than 1995, we would strongly resist it,” he said.
