DAN Govt welcomes Reconciliation pledge

Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government today said the September 18 pledge to work towards reconciliation by the top leaders of the NSCN (IM), NSCN (K) and the NNC is a major step to realizing the goals of reconciliation, unity and peace.

“The state Cabinet in its meeting held at Kohima on 21st September welcomes the signing of the commitment of the September Summit by the top leaders of the Naga nationalist groups, viz., the NSCN (IM), the NSCN (K) and the NNC,” Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said in a message today.  The commitment of the leaders of the groups is a major step towards achieving unity, understanding and oneness – the desires of the Naga people, Rio stated. The commitments the groups  gave were to reconcile based on the historical and political right of the Nagas, agreeing to cessation of all hostilities – including territorial expansion against each other.

“The DAN government, as an active facilitator continues to support the journey of common hope which is aimed at bringing about understanding and unity in the Naga society which will pave the way for achievement of lasting peace,” the alliance said. The DAN government and the state Cabinet also expressed appreciation to civil society, the church and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation for their efforts to bring about reconciliation and unity “of the Naga society.” All the Naga groups are encouraged to remain steadfast in their commitments and disallow any “factor” from ‘destroying’ the “hard-earned peace” achieved through the collective efforts of the Naga people.
