
Jalukie, July 27 (MExN): Children’s Parliament Initiative in Nagaland under the aegis of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) conducted its first general election of New Jalukie Children’s Parliament in collaboration with New Jalukie Students Union (NJSU) at New Jalukie Village Panchayat Hall on July 25.
NJSU Information & Publicity Secretary Guduaklung Gangmei in a press release stated that Paisuile, District Coordinator, DAN addressing the children spoke about the aims and objectives of the children’s parliament initiative in Peren District. New Jalukie Village has been selected as one of the village to take part, equip and widen the knowledge of the student community in regard to the parliamentary functioning in practical, she added.
A brief introduction to Childline 1098 was given by Ibamsile Doson and Aman Newmai from Childline Peren team.
Vikhuli Achumi, Program Manager of Children’s Parliament Initiative, DAN highlighted that community level Children Parliament is the base where children can go and take part in institutional level, district level, state level and even to national level. She gave an introduction on the roles and responsibilities of a parliamentarian including the Council of Ministers, Speakers and proceeded for the General Election New Jalukie Children’s Parliament.
The children contested for the various posts in accordance to the parliamentary functioning in a democratic form of government and elected 24 Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Leaders of Opposition of the House.
The elected candidate for the various portfolios allocated in the Parliament for the tenure of 1-year time took the oath swear-in ceremony to abide the strict norms and procedure for the smooth functioning and executions of parliament was administered by Aphun Gonmei President, New Jalukie Students’ Union.
The day-long programme ended with National Anthem sang by all the participants and followed with photo session.
