Kohima: Retrospecting the past three years, the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) 18th Chozuba A/C asserted that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) ministry was growing from strength to strength.
“Darkness had loomed large over Nagaland for a long time but the short three-year ministry of DAN is a real eye opener. The DAN Ministry has awakened us from our deep lull of sleep.” said Vetsulhu , general secretary NPF 18 Chozuba A/C.
Nagaland is marching towards another year of peace and development under the DAN government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, he said.
Nagaland has taken a giant leap under the leadership of Rio, adding the Government of India has rightly conferred the India Innovation Award 2005 to the government of Nagaland for its communitisation programme, a unique and novel public-private partnership initiative and the first of its kind in the whole country.
The selection of Rio as the “Naga of the Year” has once again affirmed the support of the Nagas towards him, Vetsulhu said.
He also cited of some achievements of the government as follows; launching of mobile telephone service in Nagaland, hiking of grant-in-aid for VDB’s by Rs. 7.01 crores, success of year of youth empowerment, formation of Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency, opening of National Horticulture Board Branch at Kohima, Centre’s approval of Horticulture Institute in Nagaland, upgradation of Cement Plant at Wazeho in Phek district, creation of one Naga battalion of the Territorial Army, hosting of North East Sports Festival, programmes for economic empowerment of women and introduction of Nagaland Money Lender’s Bill.
Referring to the forthcoming North East Agri Expo, Vetsulhu said, “A chance is again created to our local talents and farmers to exhibit their rare discoveries and products to our neighboring states and countries.”
This will definitely create a friendly and cordial relationship and boost peaceful co-existence with our neighbors, he said and stressed the need to make the best use of it.
Also referring to the declaration of the year 2006 as the “Year of Farmers,” he said “it is indeed a declaration of war against poverty since the bulk of our population depends on agriculture for livelihoods.
“We appreciate and congratulate the DAN government for preparing a battle field to defeat and overcome economic slavery. Like an able general, we strongly believe that Neiphiu Rio will lead us to final victor, the release said.
He also requested the Steering Committee members of the “Year of Farmers” to strongly equip and arrange necessary weapons and equipment to their soldiers- the farmers of Nagaland. He also urged upon the farmers to fight like a true warrior, devoting full time and energy in its war against poverty.
Victory may not be easy but it is possible and therefore Let is all strive together, co-operate with our leaders and be victors, he added.
