
Reaffirms commitment to facilitate Naga issue
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): Democratic Alliance of Nagaland comprising of the ruling NPF, BJP and JD (U) on Wednesday released its Common Minimum Programme (CMP) at the DAN rally held at DDSC Stadium. The CMP was released jointly by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, BJP National General Secretary, Tapir Gao and JD (U) General Secretary and in-charge NE, A.K. Shrivastava.
In its CMP, the DAN reaffirmed its commitment to be a facilitator towards a negotiated settlement of the “Indo-Naga” political problem acceptable to the people and to fully support and co-operate in the peace process. DAN reiterated to pave way for an alternative arrangement in the event of a permanent settlement. It also assured to pursue for the recognition of the Eastern Nagas in Myanmar for a defined territory for them and support them to grow politically, socially and economically.
On the social front, the CMP stated it would ensure to provide full security for minorities and to implement in letter and spirit in detecting, deleting and deporting of illegal immigrants. “Health care for all,” the CMP stated, would be its set target to achieve by improving and enhancing the present hospitals, community health centres and dispensaries.
Achieving total literacy by inducting better educational facilities both for the students and teachers was also on its agenda.
Stating that the DAN would continue its policy of Youth Empowerment, the CMP outlined its policy of generating youth employment through capacity building and training as well as creation of self employment opportunities through CM’s corpus fund, which the DAN added, had been implemented with huge success.
The CMP assured to make efforts in setting up of district level Women Commissions supported by appropriate government offices. On agriculture and allied sector, the DAN committed itself to continue according highest degree of concentration by bringing modernized sectors of cultivations and improved technologies.
Pointing out that shortage of power supply hampers all economic and developmental activities, the DAN said it would install more hydro projects and also explore and intensify the technologies on non-conventional sources of energy.
In its industrial programme, the DAN said it would create conducive environment and attractive business houses for investment in larger industries by tapping natural resources. Further, DAN said it would continue to accord top most priority in transportation and communication system by tapping required funds.
Recognizing tourism sector as an area of high potential for economic gains, the DAN assured to continue to encourage and facilitate the agencies and entrepreneurs for enhancing the tourism industry in the state. On the Look East Policy, the DAN said initial measures have already been taken and the formal approaches made to make Nagaland a corridor in the scheme of South East Asia’s booming economic scenario.
Maintaining that there were many visionary programmes at store, the DAN appealed the electorate to vote in its favour and re-instate “a government of the people, by the people and for the people,” which it added could resume the unfinished task for reconciliation and for a negotiated political settlement for the Nagas.
