Dance flash mob spread awareness on clean election

Dimapur, January 18 (MExN): In order to create an awareness on clean election, Dimapur district joined some of the districts in the state in saying ‘no’ to proxy voting, a pledge to voting is a responsibility and supported by saying ‘yes’ to clean election on Friday at DC court junction, Dimapur.

Drawn from three teams from within Dimapur and Chümoukedima, the 15 dancers headed by Jacob Rangpong, who has credit of performing at national level stage, mesmerized the hundreds odd revellers at the DC court junction which also saw traffic being stopped for about 10 minutes for the awareness programme.

Initiated by Ethnic Group of Nagaland (EGoN), the awareness programme saw Assistant Election Officer 
(AEO), Dimapur, Roland Merry, who was also present stating that such kind of participation from the  masses especially the youth was the need of the hour in disseminating the message about clean election.

Hoping that through the programme which was initiated by the EGoN about clean election would be fruitful, Merry was also optimistic that the message conveyed through the “street dance” by best performers drawn from different pockets of Dimapur and within, would open the ‘eye’ of eligible voters in the state for a better and “clean election” in the state.

Also talking to the media person, president, EGoN, Miranda Jamir, said that in order to create awareness about “clean election”, EGoN had initiated the “flash mob” for the election department citing that every districts including Mon, Wokha, and Kohima had earlier initiated the awareness “flash mob” in their respective districts to be followed by other remaining districts in the following days.

The programme was also attended by reigning Miss Dimapur 2018, Neingainem Kuki, who is also the Election Icon for Dimapur district.

It may be mentioned that as per YouthNets’ post election watch highlights report during 2018 election, the 10 Nagaland’s political parties comprising of NPF, NPP, NDPP, NCP, LJP, JDU, INC, BJP, AAP and Independent had spent more than Rs. 1061.09 crores which included Dimapur with 17 candidates spending the maximum Rs.132,80,00,000.

The report has also highlighted the corruption about the voters who pocket as high as Rs.5000-Rs.10,000 per vote while households took as much as Rs.75,000 during the last state assembly elections held on February 27, 2018, during its study conducted aimed at bringing electoral reforms and also in creating accountable and transparent governance in the state.

The YouthNet’s report has also highlighted the rampant selling of votes, revealing that the 196 contestants in fray in the last 2018 for the 60 seats state assembly elections had spent a staggering amount of Rs. 1061.09 crores or an average of Rs.5.41 crores per candidate.
