Dangerous Alliance: Police constable, kilonser arrested in drug peddling case

DIMAPUR, JULY 6 (MExN): In a revelation of a dangerous alliance involved in drug peddling, a Constable from Nagaland Police and a Kilonser in a Naga political group were among three arrested by Mokokchung Police in connection with possession and supply of brown sugar/heroin recently. 

According to Mokokchung police, one person identified as Lanutoshi (aged 33 years), a constable in DEF Mokokchung and a resident of Ungma village was apprehended while conducting routine checking on July 1 at MMC Complex Sumo Stand, Mokokchung. 

The arrest was made after police on duty became suspicious on seeing the accused receiving a parcel through a Sumo driver. On inspection, one plastic soap container containing suspected brown sugar concealed inside the parcel was recovered from his possession. 

On further investigation, the police identified the suppliers as Moameren Vmai (aged 40 years), a resident of Naga United Village, Chümoukedima and Buni Throzho (aged 47 years), reportedly a Kilonser in NSCN-K (Niki) group and residing in Rangailong colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur. 

The duo was arrested after a search operation was conducted on July 5. One .22 caliber ‘pen’ pistol with 6 live rounds was seized from their possession. Accordingly, a case has been registered at Mokokchung Police Station-1 for further investigation. 

In this connection, the Mokokchung police have requested the public for cooperation in combating the drugs menace. It also informed that any person found indulging in drug abuse and drug trafficking will be sternly dealt with as per provision under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
