Kohima, May 7 (MExN): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Daochier I Imchen on Thursday took the oath of office as Member of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) following his victory in the recent by-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency.
According to a press release issued by the NLA Secretariat, the oath was administered by Speaker Sharingain Longkumer at his office chamber in the Assembly Secretariat, Kohima.
Among those present at the ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye, Naga People's Front Secretary-General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon, Advisor A Pangjung Jamir, BJP leaders, and family members of the newly elected legislator.
Daochier was elected from the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency in the by-election held on April 9, securing 7,317 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Independent candidate Major (Retd) Toshikaba, by a margin of 3,123 votes. The result was declared on May 4.
At 35 years of age, as stated in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he became the youngest member of the 14th NLA with his victory.
He succeeds his father, late Imkong L Imchen, who had represented the constituency since 2003 and won five consecutive terms before his demise in November 2025.
Following his victory, Daochier had described the mandate as both an honour and a responsibility, pledging to work for the entire Koridang constituency and to carry forward the developmental legacy of his father.
