Wokha, November 11 (MExN): The 1st Falcon Angling Competition organised by District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN) was held on November 9 at Tzüza Eryu, Doyang under Pangti village. The event was sponsored by Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland as part of Amur Falcon Conservation Week & Festival.
Besides local anglers from Wokha, Mokokchung, Dimapur and Kohima, angling enthusiasts from Assam also participated in the competition, informed a press release from DAWN Publicity & Information Secy T Lotha.
Akum Ao (Mokokchung) emerged as the winner of the competition and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000. He caught a Mahseer weighing 1.42 Kg which was released back as an effort to create awareness and save the endangered Mahseer.
The 2nd- 5th prizes were bagged by Nyanthung Odyuo, Wapang , Libemo Kithan and Chumbemo Ngullie respectively.
Award for 'First catch of the competition', 'the most disciplined angler', and the 'luckiest angler' went to Chumbemo Ngullie, Ponathung Tungoe and Y Zubenthung Ovung respectively.
Special invitee of the prize distribution ceremony Lotimenba, Joint Director, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources spoke on the huge potential of Doyang reserviour and the department’s efforts to conserve and utilize for the benefits of the people.
A short speech was delivered by Phukato Sumi, President Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN). He urged the local people to cooperate, conserve and popularize the Tzüza angling zone in order to harvest various economic benefits in near future.
KN Mhonthung, President DAWN in his keynote address emphasized on the conservation, sustainable living and the importance of community participation and support to bring changes and in the society.
