‘Day light extortion’ surfaces in Tuensang

Tuensang, June 15 (MExN): The unauthorised collection and ‘Agency Raj’, which is often termed as a day light extortion, has again surfaced in Tuensang. Earlier, after numerous negotiations between the district Administration, NGOs and Students the ‘Agency Raj’, selling of tickets, calendar and unauthorised collection were banned within Tuensang Town. 

“This re-emergence is forcing the business community to charge exorbitant rate in the commodities making the public to bear the price directly or indirectly”, stated Chang Khulei Setshang, Information and Publicity Secretary L. Akhum Soted Chang in a press release.

With this concern the CKS has warned every individual and organisation and also the non- locals involved in these unfair practices to immediately stop this agencies and collections. “In the interest of the general public of Tuensang Town”, CKS in the release “appeals the District authorities and Tuensang Town Committee to be firm and take measures to stop the corrupt practices”.

At the same time the CKS has expressed appreciation to the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Delhi (ENSUD) for ensuring the safe return of Bendang Chang of Yangpi Village, Mongba Chang of Chendang Village, and Hongsa Chang of Tuensang Village from Delhi to Tuensang. They were deported to Delhi by one Among Ao on the pretext of giving job. “It was learnt that some are still missing, therefore the CKS request ENSUD to help in tracing the remaining missing persons”, L. Akhum Soted added in the release while condemning the ‘inhuman’ act of Among Ao.

The Office bearers of CKS have also heartily congratulated M.C Chollen Chang for being re-elected as CKS President. The handing and taking over was held on June 9, 2007 at the Treasurers residence, the release also added.
