DAYO alleges utter negligence as Blood Bank at DHD sans generator

DIMAPUR, JULY 13 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has expressed concern that the Blood Bank attached to the District Hospital Dimapur has been running without an operational generator since the last 3 years.

Terming it as  “utter negligence and total disregard for the lives of the citizens of Nagaland,” the DAYO in a press release on Saturday alleged that in spite of an urgent official letter written to the Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare Department (H&FW) for a generator in March, no action has been taken so far.

While reminding that the most vital aspect of public healthcare the Blood Bank of Dimapur had singularly covered the whole of Nagaland and parts of Assam for a long time, it said providing and ensuring availability of safe life-saving blood transfusion with matching blood types round the clock is itself a whole eco system of technical expertise and selfless dedication.

All these will be rendered futile and useless without power backup as there is frequent load shedding and will result in loss of precious human lives, it underscored.

It therefore urged the concerned department to rectify “this shameful state of affair,” while cautioning that the “concerned personnel of the particular department will be held responsible.”

Knowing the importance of blood donation, DAYO, over the years has been rendering a yeoman service in spreading public awareness, community participation and maintaining a functional list of potential blood donors, it further maintained.
It also sought to point out that Dimapur for the few consecutive years has been vulnerable to dengue especially with onset of monsoon. If the concerned Medical Department is found wanting and does not pull up its socks to meet any outbreak of vector-borne disease, the citizens will not be mere mute spectators, it stated.
