Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) has requested the State Government to resume state owned public transport systems and alleviate the plight of the common people.

In a press release on Sunday, the DAYO Media Cell stated that private transport operators have resumed services after relaxation of interstate and intra district movement of goods and people. However, it said that fares have been increased exponentially due to the existing norms of seating arrangements resulting in lesser intake capacity.

“It is however unfortunate and regrettable that the State owned public transport system especially the Nagaland State Transport (NST) buses are yet to hit the roads making it difficult for the common people to bear the costs of travelling especially to meet medical attention across the districts and state,” the DAYO statement read.

It also pointed out that students and competitive examination aspirants need to rejoin their educational institutions and access consultation and library facilities, for which, they are in need of cheaper transportation services.

As such, DAYO urged the State Government to take into consideration the plight of the student community and the common people who cannot afford travelling in private transports and resume plying of public transport/NST buses at reasonable rates without further delay.
