DAYO, BAN turn down meeting called by NSCN/GPRN (K)

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) on August 29 responded to the NSCN/GPRN (K)’s statement regarding the kidnapping incident which took place on August 26.

Following the incident, DAYO had issued a press statement condemning the act on August 27. In response, the NSCN/GPRN (K) reportedly issued a communiqué on August 28 under the subject ‘Request for consultation/clarification on kidnapping allegation’, summoning DAYO and others to meet them in their office in Thilixu village at 4:00 pm on August 29.

In this regard, DAYO stated that it does not deem itself obligated to comply with the ‘demand’.

“DAYO firmly recognises and believes that the law enforcing agencies of the Government of Nagaland are the only competent entities to handle and investigate the matter. It would therefore allow the law to take its own course which is subjudice,” it asserted.

DAYO justified its stand, stating that it was “absolutely imperative and necessary” for the sake of civility and rule of law and not impede the investigation by conducting “parallel deliberations.”

It further said that the NSCN/GPRN (K) may come to DAYO office anytime after prior information for any consultation deemed necessary.

Meanwhile, the Organisation also reacted to the NSCN/GPRN (K)’s clarification where it had alleged that a mob of ‘Dimapur Ao Youth’ took away the lady manager of Symbios Creations Pvt. Ltd. and prevented her from withdrawing the FIR, at the same time forcibly filed the FIR in the kidnapping case.

It refuted both the allegations, terming them “totally false and baseless.”

DAYO also advised the proprietor of SymBios Creation Pvt Ltd and the Aoyimti Lanur Telongjem not to attend any summons or meetings on this issue without the Organisation’s knowledge.

“We fully stand by our parent body ASTD Resolution to safeguard the bonafide members advocating their livelihood and that any palpable harassment meted out without any tangible reason and proof shall not be tolerated,” it asserted.

It reiterated its demand to the concerned authorities to “expedite the investigation and deliver justice so that rule of law prevails.”

Meanwhile, the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) also refrained from attending the meeting reportedly called by the NSCN/GPRN (K).

After an emergency meeting convened on August 29 to deliberate on the letter served to BAN by chairman NSCN/GPRN (K) for a meeting, the Association said that since the NSCN/GPRN (K) has already refuted the basis of allegation, the meeting as such was ‘irrelevant’.

“Attending a consultation/clarification meeting is irrelevant as MIP NSCN/GPRN-K have already refuted the basis of allegation,” it said in a statement issued by its media cell on Saturday. Thus, we find it futile for a meeting as BAN is not the appropriate authority to decide on the rebuttal, it said.

BAN expressed concern on the kidnapping of a staff serving a Naga entrepreneur and said that, as an association that exists to protect the interest of the Naga entrepreneurs, it “deems apt to condemn such an act.”

Further, the Association said that it looks forward to the investigating agency to complete the investigation without any interference whatsoever.
