Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has expressed its strong condemnation of the alleged physical assault of a local customer in Murgipatti, Dimapur on June 26.
As per the DAYO, the customer was allegedly “manhandled by non-local traders while buying vegetables in Murgipatti, Dimapur.”
“This act of aggression is not only unacceptable but also deeply disturbing, given the growing trend of non-local elements asserting unchecked dominance in public marketplaces,” it asserted.
While acknowledging that almost all market spaces in Dimapur are now “monopolised by non-local traders,” it expressed alarm over what it termed as the “audacity to lay their hands on locals with impunity.”
This incident is a grim reminder of the urgent need to reassert the rightful place of locals in their own homeland, the DAYO contended. Accordingly, the organisation reminded all concerned that “non-local traders are bound by the provisions of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations, and any violation, whether legal, economic, or behavioural, will not be tolerated.”
It also appealed to the law enforcement agencies and the district administration to ensure timely action to prevent “such dangerous precedents,” citing several such “unreported cases.”
The DAYO also urged all local communities and civil society organisations to raise their voices and stand in solidarity against such behaviour.
“It is time to be vigilant, aware, and united in defending our inherent rights, our dignity, and the social fabric of our land,” it held.
“DAYO stands firm in its commitment to protect the interests, rights, and safety of the indigenous Naga people of Dimapur,” it added.
