DAYO reiterates zero-tolerance for extortion and illegal taxation

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 8 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has reiterated its firm stance against any form of extortion or illegal taxation targeting the Ao community members in Dimapur and surrounding areas. With the festive season now underway, the organisation has noted a concerning rise in cases of intimidation and exploitation affecting livelihood earners, entrepreneurs, business establishments, and government employees.

DAYO strongly emphasized its commitment to the December 2018 resolution by the Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), which opposes threats and intimidation against its bona fide members. Such acts, the organisation warned, will be addressed in accordance with both the prevailing laws and customary practices of the community.

The organisation has long championed the "One Government, One Tax" principle, a collective public resolution and mandate. In light of recent developments, DAYO is urging all Ao community members to remain vigilant and united. They have further requested that any such instances of extortion or illegal taxation should be reported promptly to the DAYO Helpline at 8974851911 to ensure necessary and swift action.

Tia Longchar, President of DAYO, along with Imkong Aier, Vice President and Convenor of the Grievances Cell, called on all citizens of Dimapur and Nagaland to stand together against socio-economic injustices. They appealed for collective efforts to ensure peace and fairness during this festive season.
