DBT Star Initiative hosts strategic career planning workshop at Patkai

Chümoukedima, April 1 (MExN): The Department of Chemistry, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) organised a workshop on “Skills, Choices and Opportunities: Strategic Career Planning for College Students” on April 1 at the college conference hall.

Held under the DBT Star College Project, the programme aimed to equip students with practical insights into career planning, informed decision-making and skill development in an increasingly competitive environment, informed a press release from the college. 

Resource person Upasana Bora Sinha, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, Lumami, encouraged students to reflect on their long-term goals, prompting them to consider questions on career direction and future aspirations. 

She stressed the importance of setting clear objectives, prioritising tasks and aligning skills with career ambitions.

Highlighting emerging concerns, she noted that mental health is becoming a significant issue among students and emphasised the need for mental preparedness, clarity of responsibilities and a well-defined career trajectory.

During the session, Prof Sinha outlined key areas for students to explore, including defining career goals, managing career pathways, understanding institutional support systems, accessing scholarships, exploring research opportunities and navigating the path towards a PhD.

She also pointed to relevant online platforms and stressed the importance of building visibility in academic and professional spaces.

A substantial part of the workshop focused on skill development, with emphasis on continuous self-improvement, adaptability and staying relevant in a dynamic job market.

Prof Sinha further elaborated on job-specific skills required for careers in teaching, research and competitive examinations.

THE PCC (A) is currently the first and only institution in Nagaland selected under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Star College Programme.
