DC Dimapur calls to use handloom products

Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol has encouraged the people to use more of handloom products as it is eco-friendly and has avenues for a sustainable life if one is committed.

Addressing the 5th National Handloom Day programme at Darogajan Village Council Hall on August 7 as the special guest, Kevin called upon the weavers not to lose their originality and designs. He also urged the weavers to learn from each other and share their success stories. The National Handloom Day celebration was organised by Weavers Service Centre (WSC), Dimapur.

Prior to programme, the DC Dimapur inaugurated the expo stall to display the samples and products developed by Weavers Service Centre.  

Guest of Honour, CM Lotha, Managing Director, Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd and General Manager, DIC Dimapur, P Tokugha Achumi also addressed the gathering. 

During the programme, weavers were distributed yarn passbook, weavers pehchan card and certificates.

After the event, WSC Dimapur organised a workshop for exploring handloom schemes among all district’s functional managers and inspectors of Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland. About 120 weavers attended the workshop. 

During the workshop, Ekonthung Tsanglao, Coordinator, NHDC, Dimapur talked on ‘Yarn Supply Scheme & e-Dhaga offered by NHDC, Saurav Sarma, Dy. Manager and Credit Analyst, Dimapur on ‘Schemes of MUDRA, PMJJBY, PMSBY’, Nise Iralu, RD, IGNOU, Nagaland on ‘Educational Opportunity for Handloom weavers through IGNOU’ and Dr V Sivakkumar, Dy Director, WSC, Dimapur on ‘Schemes for Handloom Weavers through O/o DCH.’

The workshop concluded with interaction session among weavers and various handloom stake holders.
