DC Dimapur urges to build a society where no one waits for blood

Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2026 was observed on October 1 at Immanuel College, Dimapur, under the theme ‘One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.’ The programme was jointly organised by the Blood Centre, District Hospital, Dimapur and Immanuel College, Dimapur in collaboration with Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Nagaland (VBDAN) which was supported by Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council at Immanuel College premises.

The occasion was graced by Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur as the guest of honour, stated a press release. Addressing the gathering, the DC stated that blood is one of the most precious resources in healthcare, something that cannot be manufactured but only come from a willing human donor.

Stressing on the theme, he said, “every unit of blood donated voluntarily has the potential to help others in need at the right time and is an expression of humanity, compassion and social responsibility.”

He pointed out the significance of conducting the programme in a college campus, saying that its importance goes beyond the number of blood units collected. “Such programmes create awareness among young people and encourage them to understand the importance of being responsible citizens and developing a willingness to serve society.”

He encouraged young people to become the ambassadors of voluntary blood donation. “Let us donate blood when we are eligible, let us spread awareness when we have the opportunity, and let us encourage others to serve and above all, let us build a society where no person in need of blood is left waiting because a willing donor could not be found,” he cited. 

Experts from organising team also spoke at the event. Temsuyanger Aier, Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant, DISHA, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur spoke on HIV & AIDS awareness. Awareness on voluntary blood donation was shared by Dr Rongsenmar LKR, MO Blood Centre, District Hospital Dimapur spoke on voluntary blood donation awareness while Burakum Ao, President VBDAN highlighted the objectives of the association and encouraged the gathering to donate blood and save lives.

The formal programme was followed by a blood donation drive, during which 27 donors gave blood. The programme was chaired by Dr Temsutola, Head, Department of Botany, Immanuel College. Inaholi T Aye, Matron, Girls’ Hostel, invoked God’s presence, followed by a welcome address by Dr Th Sharachandra Singh, Principal of the college. Chumchamo Ngullie presented a special number and vote of thanks was delivered by Ngipsho M Konyak, Convener, Red Ribbon Club, Immanuel College.
