
Kohima, June 18 (MExN): Stressing on the need to go “back to roots”, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, has called for adopting organic farming. The DC was speaking during a visit to Gariphema Village on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Gariphema Village Council, the Kohima DC lauded the village for its many achievements which, among others, include being a 'Tobacco free' village. The village has also made a declaration to eliminate violence against women.
Soundarajan also lauded the village for its unity. Gariphema village has only one church and one administrative council despite being a village of two tribes i.e., Angami and Sema.
The DC later visited a coffee plantation farm in the village accompanied by the Joint Secretary of the Department of Land Resources, ADC Chiephobozou, SDO Civil Chiephobozou, District Land Resources officials, and a host of other district officials.
During his visit to the coffee farm, the DC lauded Kezhangulie Kire, President, GVYO, for taking up the nursery at Gariphema and promoting coffee cultivation by distribution coffee saplings to the villagers through the initiative of the Land Resources Department.
The officials also visited the Trinitarian spot, an open amphitheater, foundation stone of NCRC, NCRC archive museum etc.
