DC Kohima directs clearance of roads

Kohima, March 9 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie has issued an order that all construction or building materials are to be loaded or unloaded and cleared from the road between 6:00 pm to 7:00 am.


Digging of roads for laying down water cables, pipelines is prohibited without specific order, the DC’s order stated. All water cable pipes hanging above the roads are to be removed and all illegal ‘No Parking’ sign boards and hoardings are also to be removed. Off road vehicles are to be moved away and dumping of building materials, particularly for (slab casting/dhalia) in huge quantities on roadside should seek prior permission from the concerned authority. Permission should be sought from concerned authority for laying cables, the order said, as per a DIPR report.


The DC has notified that public roads and highways are being damaged and obstructions are being caused by washing of vehicles, random dumping of construction and building materials such as stones, sand bricks, firewood, bamboo, excavated earth etc on the roadside, causing blockage of drainage and waterways besides causing inconveniences to free flow of traffic and pedestrians' safe movement.


The order also added that in case of failure to adhere to the directives, the concerned owner or individual will be penalized and the materials will be removed at the cost of the defaulters without further notice.
