
Kohima, May 30 (MExN):Movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) beyond 12 tonnes over the bridge located near E-service station Jakhama on National Highway-2 has been suspended with immediate effect.
Further, vehicular traffic over the bridge for all types of vehicles will be closed from 7 pm to 7 am until further notice. In an order, the Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant stated that the restriction was imposed due to damage to supporting structures of the bridge.
Vehicular traffic over the bridge for HMV less than 12 tonnes would be restricted to one vehicle at a time with a speed limit of 5 kmph, it added . During the traffic closure period, light motor vehicles) can take an alternate route via Keyake (BSF camp)-Chakhabama Military Station- Kezoma- Prayer Park (Kidima)- Kidima.
On May 29, the Southern Angami Youth Organisation highlighted that the bridge between Viswema-Jakhama is in ‘critical’ condition and on ‘verge of collapsing,’ posing a serious threat to human life, security, and vehicle movement.
It demanded immediate action from the authorities to address this issue and also serve a 15-day ultimatum to address resolve multiple issues related to the ongoing construction and resurfacing work on NH-2 Kohima-Mao road.
