DC Kohima reiterates restrictions on use of single-use plastic items

Kohima, August 30 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Shanavas C, IAS through a circular has reiterated on the decision taken by the District Task Force on use of single-use plastic items. The DC Kohima directed that all departments and establishments are to do away with the use of single-use plastic items with special reference to packaged drinking water bottles below 20 litres in offices and during meetings/functions.

Use of virgin or recycled plastic shall not be less than 120 microns in thickness w.e.f December 31, 2022. Non-woven plastic carry bag shall not be less than 60 grams per square meter (GSM) w.e.f September 30, 2022, it stated. 

The DC also directed that all the offices to hold sensitization sessions in offices to highlight the negative impact of single-use plastic items and formulate an action plan for respective offices for a plastic-free environment.

“All the departments have been requested to comply and also communicate to all the establishments under your department for compliance. There will be surprise checking by the Teams constituted by the District Task Force in this regard, and a penalty will be imposed for non-compliance,’ the DC cautioned.
