Dimapur | May 15
Acquired by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome (IAS) on Monday launched vehicles, machineries and dustbins at the former’s office premises. The DC lauded DMC Administrator, H. Atokhe Aye, who demits office on May 17, for creating history in the Municipal Council by undertaking numerous developmental projects including roads, bridges, drains, community dustbins etc.
“DMC officers in the past have also worked but no one in the past has ever worked like him (Atokhe) for the development of the municipality,” Kesonyu placed on record.
To the DMC staff, drivers and labourers, the DC appreciated their works on behalf of the public stating no matter how much they clean the town it becomes littered again owing to which their efforts were not visible. However, he urged them not to be discouraged but continue to discharge their duties sincerely.
He appealed to the drivers to use the new vehicles with sense of ownership and also urged the public to cooperate with the municipal authorities in keeping the town clean.
“No matter how many new vehicles are acquired, if the public do no inculcate civic sense and extend their cooperation, the programmes and policies of the Municipal will not be successful,” he added.
Kesonyu also appealed to the public to segregate household wastes into dry and wet for which the Municipal would be distributing separate dustbins.
DMC Administrator, Atokhe informed that 12 medium sized tipper trucks, 2 excavators, 1 Polkland, 1 Roadroller and 250 dustbins were acquired under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He expressed hope that with the arrival of more vehicles and machineries, the Municipal will be able to provide better service to the public.
With the arrival of new vehicles, Atokhe said the DMC plans to send one vehicle each to two wards everyday for waste collection from second week of June; the timings and mode of operation would be intimated later.
He also informed that free distribution of two dustbins for each household would begin on June 5, World Environment Day and nationwide kick-off programme for segregation of waste at source.
For smooth distribution of dustbins, the Administrator urged all colonies to submit the list of households including house owners and tenants to the office of DMC latest by May 20, 2017.
With this segregation of waste at source and distribution of free dustbins to every household, the DMC plans to do away with community dustbins in due course of time. However, to achieve such objective, Atokhe appealed to the public to actively participate in the programme.
Thanking the public for extending their support and cooperation to him, Atokhe urged the people to extend the same cooperation to the new officer who would be taking charge in a few days.
Executive Engineer DMC, Er. Badra said that the Municipal was finding difficulty to function effectively for the public owing to shortage of vehicles. However, after Atokhe took charge of DMC, many vehicles and machineries were acquired through his effort and the Municipal was able to provide better services to the public, he added. Er. Badra also informed that three more new Cesspools would be coming soon with the initiative of the outgoing Administrator.
