Niuland, June 18 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S Jamir, has issued an order imposing a total ban on the extraction of boulders and sand from the riverbed along the stretch of the Chathe River falling within Niuland district. The DC issued the order stating that the rampant extraction of boulders and sand from the river bed is causing irreparable destruction to the ecology and endangering the lives and properties of the people around the area. It further cautioned that violators will be penalised under relevant provisions of the law, including seizure and confiscation of machinery and equipment used for such extraction.
